Respect The Process is a filmmaking podcast. Commercials & advertising, indie films, and other stuff I find creatively interesting.

Apr 23, 2021

Leo Burnett Detroit Creative Directors Dan Councilor and Tom Topolewski discuss shooting remotely from the agency perspective. I'd shot Buick with the team (Dan is an Art Director and Tom a copywriter) in February again for the NCAA March Madness, but this time Tom watched the camera feed via zoom and facetimed with us. Dan had his boots on the ground. Now, I love having the creatives with me on set. The energy and ideas bounce around more fluidly. What practices will stick as the pandemic dies down? (Read about our collab here.)

Fun fact: Dan & Tom have created some of your favorite Oso Delicious Hot Sauce ads on Instagram. Jake's Patreon patrons get special tips from the gents on what they love in a director's treatment.

My online Commercial Directing Masterclass celebrated one year of helping filmmakers globally and has received 100% 5 star reviews. Did I mention the free filmmaker consultation call upon completion?

My cult classic mockumentary, "Dill Scallion" is online so I'm giving 100% of the money to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
